Welcome to Skeleton Code Machine, a weekly publication that explores tabletop game mechanisms. Spark your creativity as a game designer or enthusiast, and think differently about how games work. Check out Dungeon Dice and 8 Kinds of Fun to get started!
It’s been an amazing year!
It’s hard to believe I started Skeleton Code Machine less than 12 months ago, and yet it has already gained just shy of 1,500 subscribers!
Each week I write about whatever my latest obsession might be. One week it could be how cards are stacked in Eschaton and another week could be input vs. output randomness.
The best part is the excitement and engagement from readers like you! The conversations I had with some of you at PAX Unplugged were really special and energizing!
First annual reader survey
I’m a big believer in making many tiny, incremental improvements over time to improve something. I’d love to see Skeleton Code Machine continue to grow and improve, and I need your help to do that!
Please let me know what you think in the Skeleton Code Machine Annual Reader Survey which runs now through December 31.
A few important notes:
Most of the questions are optional.
I won’t share individual responses without your permission.
I might share aggregated response data.
The survey ends December 31, 2023.
The survey is built using Microsoft Forms, and you can access it at: https://forms.office.com/r/pCgNpuBxWQ
That’s it! The survey takes just a few minutes and can provide some really valuable feedback. I really appreciate your help!
Again, thanks for reading Skeleton Code Machine and thinking differently about tabletop games!

For those who have completed the survey, thank you! It's really thoughtful feedback and some insights that I can definitely use!
Also... already getting so many great TTRPG and board game recommendations! Don't assume that I've played any/all of them before! :)
Congrats on a fantastic first year!
