Trophy Dark is a fantastic game. Amazing to see it getting some coverage and love, I wrote my own initial impressions up back in May (https://open.substack.com/pub/murkdice/p/how-did-i-miss-this-game?r=3rp84v&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web), and gave it high praise myself.

It really is. The mechanisms look solid, and the writing is just so good! Each little prompt and snippet in the tables feels like it could be an entire story. Perfect use of theme and mechanisms.

The original ~20-page version in Codex Dark 2 is cheap ($7), easy to print and staple at home, and very playable.

Good call! I forgot about that and failed to mention it.

I don't want to anger your wallet... but Trophy Dark is very, very good. I don't think you'll regret it.

Oh, I have no doubt. My wallet will whimper, but it will survive. It's clearing time to play it that has suddenly become the complicated part.

It’s not just through rituals you gain a dark dice. Everytime you are willing to risk your mind and body to succeed you add one.

It’s quite central to the mechanic and what you will have to resort to if you don’t have an applicable skill and noone offers you a devil’s bargain.

This is important to the theme of the game.
