Which skirmish games do you love? Do skirmish games need minis? Let me know what makes a game a "skirmish game" and which games you'd like to see featured.
Just want to make a note of a few more options [that are not represented in the survey]
Mordheim, space weirdo's, Blood Bowl, trench crusade, necromunda, kill team, Skirm in the gutterlands, Tonks, games from the non-combat-tabletop almanac, necropolis28 ... I may stop now, the list goes on.
But I would still like to add Chris McDowall's "MAC Attack", just fresh from the press.
Chris McDowall being also a noted TTRPG designer, his miniature game might be a good fit for your investigations across game-genres.
(Same for his older "The Doomed").
As a side note, culturally speaking, I find interesting that the boundary miniature game player/ TTRPG player seems thinner in the UK than pretty much anywhere else.
Necropolis28 has free rules available [still in development phase I think] 28mag has handful of free skirmish game downloads here: https://28-mag.com/games/
Gorkamorka and mordheim both have free rules available as they are no longer supported by GW, Skirm is also free if you just take the download. So many of these games are made by indie developers who just want people to play their game, and it always allows for much more interesting ideas to come through.
You should check Infinity, there is no other skirmish game like it. It is crunchy, thinky, full of tactical tools that you don't see commonly in other games, and with a reactive system that keeps you always involved during gameplay. It's not for everyone, but it's worth checking out because of how unique it is. And the latest edition (N5) it's the best the game has ever been.
Yes, those are the rules. The other downloads are for other games in the Infinity universe, but they are not skirmish games (REM Racers is Infinity Mario Kart, Defiance is Infinity Imperial Assault, and TAG Raid is kind of Infinity King of the Hill).
super cool :D i know nothing about this topic, so i look forward to learning ^^ still answered the survey, had some really appropriate options for me, haha ^^ was also interesting to think about definitions, from my very vague idea, and some hunches i got from looking at the potential list :)!

FROSTGRAVE!!!!!
I see this one come up a lot. I will check it out if I can acquire a copy of the rules!
You are very kind. It’s a great game. Soooo much flavor. And so many kinds of wizards to choose from!
I happen to work on a skirmish game as a hobby project. Super hyped for the week!

I’m so far down the rabbit hole with the NCT Almanac!!! 😅
Thank you for your comment! This stuff is fascinating!
I love that the guy that made applepicking28 so that his son could play a skirmish game, but without fighting, still kept a very grimdark aesthetic.
Thank you for the list! Some of those have been suggested quite a few times so I’ll need to check them out.
Non-combat skirmish games? Interested!!!
The finals depend on how easily I can get a copy of the rules. :)
As Marvors said, the list goes on …

I hear good things about Infinity, and free rules makes it easier to cover.
Do I want the Corvus Belli Infinity N5 rules on the site you linked? There's also REM Races, Tag Raid, and Defiance.

Also, rules, tokens, army builder... are all free:

I'll be learning too. I've played Star Wars: Shatterpoint and Cyberpunk Red: Combat Zone but not any of the big popular ones.
I'm quickly learning that A LOT of people love Forbidden Psalm and Frostgrave. :)
