I feel someone should say the word “Dredge” at least once under this review.

Yes! They mentioned Dredge (video game) in the Dice Tower review, but I wasn't familiar with it. Now that I've checked it out on Steam (and had others recommend) it certainly does look similar. Also, looks like a game I would enjoy!

Thanks for the comment!

Stellar game, I loved it. From everything I see, this is “Dredge the unofficial board game” (which is why I went this close to backing Deep Regrets when it was crowdfunding). Was a bit put off by other reviews but I definitely need to check it out.

If you haven't watched the Dice Tower review, I'd recommend it. They end up giving it a 6/10 mostly due to the (in their opinion) excessive randomness... but they still enjoyed the theme and art.

The art is amazing, and there’s so much of it! If the designer hadn’t also done all the art, there’s no way it would be affordable, it must have taken hundreds of hours work.

It made me remember what Kickstarter was originally set up for - crazy, wonderful passion projects that wouldn’t have got off the ground otherwise

The card backs which give a clue about the size of the fish lurking in the depths is a simple but brilliant mechanic too - I’ve never seen it done before

Yes on all accounts!

The card backs are really interesting. I feel like most designers would have just put a sm/med/large icon on there for readability. The "shadow of the fish" is extremely thematic and a really nice touch. Example of how the graphic design for how the whole game is handled.

I love that most board games I see about the open sea have some form of madness mechanic haha. This game looks very cool, I love the art and concepts and am a sucker for all things Cosmic Horror.

I particularly like your point about the ocean madness tracker not being a one-way trip from good to bad, but rather something where both ends make interesting choices.

I played the solo version of Deep Regrets this weekend and I definitely want to move on to the full game. Love the art and the madness aspect.
