Exploring how A Place for All My Books (2025) uses both personal and shared player boards to create a cycle of actions in both your apartment and in the village. Also, The Bloggie Awards are here!
Literally just the idea of a game about figuring out where to put my books makes me want to play it.
Also, it feels very much like maybe my real life? At least before I move houses. When we picked up and moved several states away, I had to figure out how to liquidate six bookshelves that were stacked front to back with books.
I think it does some interesting things and achieves it's goal of a being an approachable game for book lovers. For me, personally it wasn't a favorite because I prefer games with more player interaction and a less puzzle-ly nature.
Love this game. Got it to play with the family since the theme has so many elements they like: reading books, buying fun items at the shoppes, and satisfying little projects around the house.
Mechanically, the game is just right at a casual medium weight game. For those with shorter attention spans, it runs a few minutes longer than you want, players usually can go into town about twice before the end of the game. Also, the scoring takes a game or two to fully grasp for non-gamers.
Yeah, it's interesting how if everyone decides to go to town as often/soon as they can it forces the game to end early. Our first game ended far sooner than I expected, resulting in pretty low scores.
i love the theming of this! though also fair on the point about it being a bit odd as well ^^ that said... there is a fine line between book lover and hoarder xD though, i am a huge fan of public libraries myself ^^ hence that will always be my answer to where to go if i can choose freely :) (... though i also want to really have a library of my own, haha ^^" and i already have three full bookshelves... and that is me having donated a very large amount of books pretty much every time i've moved (and i have moved a lot))
i really love the whole "social battery" thing, though. very relatable mechanic to me! and, absolutely, does seem like it would generalise super well :) great ideas!

Did you like the game? It’s been on my wishlist for awhile now. No one got it for me for Xmas…lol and boo!

My top games skew in a very different direction: https://www.skeletoncodemachine.com/p/intro-part-2-top-10-board-games
I’ll def check out your list! Thanks!
I will note that if I were to make that list now, it would have some different games on it. (Which makes me think I should do an update.... )
Sounds like a great idea!

A Place for All My Books is on my Shelf of Opportunity, this is a great reminder to get it down from there and give it a try.
Definitely worth giving it a try.
I have a goal to at least count how many games are on my Shelf of Shame/Opportunity this year. Won't kid myself that I'll get them all played. :)
The Year is dead. New Year is alive. Long live the year!

thank you for sharing <3
As much as I support the idea of libraries, I hate the idea of giving the books back.
