A game I've been really enjoying is the Mistborn Deckbuilding Game. Like Compile, some cards have different effects that can be used in different circumstances. Some are passive, some are played normally, some for extra resources, and some can be played off-turn. I think it's an excellently designed game and I'd recommend checking it out if you haven't.
Certainly. While the mechanics are influenced/flavored by the magic system it doesn't rely on an understanding or appreciation of the source material. I would still play it even if I didn't love Mistborn
I could see the card mechanic work for drawing up to 3 attack modifier cards in Gloomhaven. A draw of -1 might be great with a strong Persistent ability.

I’ve heard about that one on the SVWAG podcast and it sounds interesting. Do you think I’d enjoy it if I’m not familiar with the book series?

Compile looks like a very interesting game. Enjoyed reading about it.
Thank you!
You're welcome.
